Chief Human Resources Officers and Chief Learning Officers
COVID-19 has accelerated the transition into the age of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. About 2.7 billion people, four-fifths of the global workforce, have been impacted by lockdowns and digitalization has leapt forwards. The crisis offers the opportunity to collectively build the foundations of our economic and social system for a more fair, sustainable and resilient future.
Chief Human Resources Officers (CHROs) have been central to organizations’ crisis response and can now build on this to accelerate sustainable workforce transformation.
In this context, the World Economic Forum’s Platform for Shaping the Future of the New Economy and Society has been convening a global, cross-industry CHRO Community since April 2020. Monthly virtual meetings seek to:
- Share experiences and best practice between community members.
- Synthesize learnings and case studies for people leaders across the broader business community.
- Mobilize action to responsibly manage the ongoing workforce disruptions and the transition to the future of work.
The CHRO Community is strictly at a peer level. It currently includes over 60 active CHROs from leading multinational companies.
Based on the successful template of the CHRO community, since July 2020 the Reskilling Revolution initiative has begun convening an additional complementary high-level peer community of Chief Learning Officers (CLOs)—currently counting more than 30 CLOs across a wide range of sectors. Under the overall Reskilling Revolution umbrella, the community has decided to focus on a few key focus areas over the coming months, including: Defining what it means to be a learning organization in today’s context; contributing to a global skills taxonomy; peer-exchange and learning on the latest trends in workplace learning; sharing of unique challenges within the CLO function, and exchange of solutions and best practices to create effective lifelong learning cultures. Over the course of 2021, Chief Learning Officers will share strategies for assessing emerging skills; explore opportunities for creating inclusive learning environments; and collaborate with the Skills Consortium to deliver online learning solutions at scale to their workforce.
