The Skills Consortium

Overview

Skills Consortium, group collaborating

Based on relationships with leading online learning providers developed over the course of January-May 2020, the Reskilling Revolution’s Skills Consortium—representing a very significant share of the global adult online learning market—held its inaugural virtual meeting in May 2020. The Consortium has agreed to align on key areas to deliver on the Reskilling Revolutions’ ambition: In collaboration with the Reskilling Revolution’s complementary workstreams, develop a global skills taxonomy that supports the creation of skills-based learning, hiring, training and redeployment systems; Develop a mapping of the online learning ecosystem to understand where the Consortium is best fit to deliver on this ambition, and where there may be gaps; Explore potential models for financing online learning; Define a new system for signaling quality within online learning to employers, governments and individuals.

To achieve these objectives, the Consortium will collaborate on five key areas:

  • Creating a shared language for skills
  • Mapping the supply of learning options
  • Delivering online learning solutions at scale
  • Proposing new financing mechanisms for online learning
  • Creating a framework for signalling quality in online learning

With the launch of the global skills taxonomy in January 2021, the Consortium will focus on mapping online learning solutions against the new taxonomy to better understand where they are best-positioned to deliver value as a sector to the Reskilling Revolution, and will collaborate with country and industry-level accelerators to deliver online learning at scale.
